The Company was founded by Mr Pio Castellani on September 10th, 1938. It is dutiful to recognize that the leading position that the Company keeps nowadays is largely due to the exceptional far-sightedness and enterprising spirit of initiative of its founder.
Originally established as a "Limited Company" (now corresponding to Joint Stock Company) under the name of C.E.C.A. - Carbonizzazione e Carboni Attivi, the Company's scope was the manufacture and sale of a range of absorbent products, the construction and sale of gas cleaning and treatment equipment as well as industrial, rectification and distillation plants.
In the troubled years of the II World War, the scarcity of sorbent had stimulated the demand for recovery plants and this the Company's main activity.
At the end of the hostilities it became necessary for the Company to diversify and expand by acquiring new technologies. With exceptional intuition and foresight, Mr. Pio Castellani envisaged the vast possibilities offered by the yet-to-come environmental pollution control market. Within this frame the Company established an exclusive licence agreement with PRAT DANIEL of Paris,
for the design, construction and sale of Dust Cleaning equipment.
In the meantime the Company created an Engineering Studies and Design Centre which conceived a particular type of dry multi-cyclone dust collector. This Technology has been patented, registered under the Trade Mark of ATOMIX and successfully utilised in U.S.A., Sweden, Germany and other European countries. A wet evolution has been then implemented and registered under the name of HYDROATOMIX.
Worthy of note, many of those installations still provide excellent performances nowadays.
On October 16 th , 1951, in consideration of the growing demand for Turnkey Industrial Plants, the Board of Directors reorganised the Company to its new role and simultaneously changed its name to the present one: "TERMOKIMIK CORPORATION Impianti e Procedimenti Industriali SPA."
In the context of an ambitious program for the acquisition of advanced technologies and know-how, the Company obtained an exclusive licence from the American HAGAN CORPORATION, covering the design, construction and sale of Automatic Control Systems and Components. The Company had a considerable outstanding success particularly in the marine sector: since then, more than 300 ships have been equipped with Termokimik Automation Systems.
On February 10th , 1960, the Company acquired another licence for the Handling and Conveying of Fly and Bottom Ash from fossil fuel combustion plants with THE ALLEN SHERMAN HOFF COMPANY of Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
The Company gradually branched out into two Divisions. The first Division, named Industrial Plants Division, was in charge of the design and construction of dust collecting equipment (Dry and Wet Multi-Cyclones, Bag Filters, Electrostatic Precipitators) and Bulk Materials Handling and Conveying Systems.
The second Division had the responsibility of the design and construction of Automatic Control Systems and operated, under the name of "Automatic Control Division".
At the end of the fifties, to enlarge the Company's presence in the promising ecological business, Mr. Pio Castellani decided to acquire another important technology in the field of water treatment, establishing an exclusive licence with a leading U.S.A. company of wide prestige, GRAVER WATER CONDITIONING of Chicago, specialised in primary and secondary water treatment and condensate polishing. A third Division, named Water Treatment Division, was specifically created within the Company.
The important successes achieved by all the Divisions gave to the Company the possibility to enrich its organisation with an efficient R&D Department, staffed with a highly qualified team of experts.
In 1957 the Shareholders of Termokimik constituted "IMMOBILIARE BRUMON S.p.A." which had the specific purpose to handle real estate transactions. This real estate company owned hand property which it was envisaged could be utilised advantageously in the future to meet the Company's growing needs for space in line with its expansion.
In the same period Termokimik acquired "IMMOBILIARE CARES S.p.A." who owned the industrial building situated in via Flumendosa 13, Milan. The building complex presently houses the Company's headquarters, including research laboratories and assembling facilities.
In July 1967 "INDUSTRIALE TERMOKIMIK SPA" was formed and at an extraordinary general meeting held in September of the same year it was resolved to merge "TERMOKIMIK CORPORATION Impianti e Procedimenti Industriali SPA", "IMMOBILIARE CARES S.p.A." and "IMMOBILIARE BRUMON S.p.A.".
The final step was taken during the extraordinary general meeting on October 27, 1967, when the Board unanimously decided to change the Company's name and restore it to "TERMOKIMIK CORPORATION Impianti e Procedimenti Industriali SPA".
The Company had by that time taken on a dimension and an organisation adequate to operate as a fully fledged engineering concern, capable to realise a wide range of plants on a worldwide basis. |
