The filtration technologies based upon the use of porous elements, suitably coated with filter media of diversified nature, have long been used successfully in a great number of thermal power plants (fossil and/or nuclear) around the world for the polishing of condensate, the treatment of radioactive wastes and the filtration and purification of liquids in the food, pharmaceutical and allied industries.
For such applications, Termokimik Corporation has developed a series of high purity precoat formulations, each especially tailored for the requirements of the process application range involved and the achievement of specific technological results.
POWDEX (R) RESINS
Termokimik's Powdex® resins, ground to form particles having nominal sizes between 30 and 150 microns, consist of cation exchangers in H+ or NH4 + form and anion exchangers in OH- form. Powdex resins are supplied to the users both premixed and separate, the last ones according to their ionic form, to be mixed in the field, at the time of their application.
FLOCOT FAI - FLOCOT FAI H.T. - ECODEX
The new technology and formulations of the Flocot series products (initially developed by Termokimik for the polishing of low temperature condensate) are currently applied to other treatments reaching 150° C in fossil and nuclear thermal power plants.
The Flocot series products consist of fibrous high purity materials, adequately activated with other ion or non-ion exchange materials.
The products containing a high percent of ion exchange resins are denominated as Ecodex.
FLOCOT FAR - FLOCOT FAC
Termokimik produces other series of products, denominated FLOCOT FAR and FLOCOT FAC, that find advantageous applications, both technically and economically, in other important industrial sectors such as filtration and decolourisations of sugar or pharmaceutical solutions and oxydrilic alcohol/oils.
These formulations are based upon the combination, in various proportions, of fibrous material with adsorbent resins and carbonaceous materials.
Termokimik's formulations are designed for specific application ranges and offer optimal properties for the attainment of the predetermined technological results.
FILTER ELEMENTS
Termokimik Corporation manufactures two basic types of filter elements forming the support for the precoat layers, both of the tubolar, monolithic and self-supporting design, one being closely wound with polypropylene yarn and the other totally fabricated from stainless steel.
Each type is available in different versions, depending on the specific intended application.
Polypropylene wound filter elements
The polypropylene yarn is wound around a tubular, monolithic and self-supporting inner core (provided with holes of adequate pitch and diameter over its entire surface) previously fitted with both cap and bayonet joint.
The yarn is wound at constant tension and according to an adequate pattern, so as to obtain a winding of uniform porosity, to the value required.
The polypropylene yarn used is of a type strictly meeting the specifications of Termokimik as to purity, metric count, torsional stress, floc length and breaking load.
Owing to its chemical nature, the yarn is totally inert and may in practice be used with any fluid up to a temperature of 100°C.
These elements may also be used without the precoat layer and are available at various degrees of porosity, depending on the retention effectiveness required.
When precoated, the physical-chemical filtration performance is essentially provided by the precoat layer.
Additional porosities and lengths are available on request, in connection with the different applications.
Stainless steel filter elements
Stainless steel filter elements are entirely fabricated from 304 LC SS and essentially consist of a very fine mesh tubular outer screen firmly secured to a tubular monolithic and self-supporting inner core (adequately perforated over its entire surface and previously fitted with both cap and bayonet joint), with an intermediate broad mesh screen fitted in between.
These elements feature nominal openings meeting the specific application and are normally used with a layer of precoat formulation which essentially performs the physical-chemical filtration function; they have a practically unlimited lifespan and operate well, regardless of the operating temperature involved.
Additional lengths are available on request.
Adequate procedures and sophisticated fabrication facilities are adopted in manufacturing, to ensure total integrity and cleanliness of the filter elements, in order to make these suitable for the severest service requirements.
Adequate adaptors have been designed and are available for the application of Termokimik's filter elements in any type of filter vessel.
WP FILTERS
WP filter elements are designed for use in condensate polishing applications that operate without a precoat layer.
They are constructed with pore sizes from 0.3 to 3 microns and are highly efficient in retaining iron oxides and other metallic contaminants commonly found in condensate systems.
The high surface area of the WP filter elements permits the design of smaller filter vessels and the filter's all thermoplastic construction facilitates disposal by crushing and incineration.
Functional Characteristics
